Professional Ethics

 

Description

  • An interactive, case-study based workshop about professional ethics
  • Participants are exposed to a blend of traditional foundational ethics and modern tools
  • One of the goals of the workshop is to raise the attendant's awareness of ethical issues
  • We expect the professionals in the workshop to actively participate in discussions and case studies
  • The case studies include historical and hypothetical scenarios that nicely complement the concepts developed at the workshop.
  • Attendants are asked to
    • use the concepts and techniques developed in the workshop to construct, evaluate or modify the mission of their organization from an ethical perspective 
    • proposed an improvement to one of the processes in their organization that would result in improvements of the ethical environment

    • Virtue theory
    • Kantian principles
    • The Golden Rule
    • Utilitarianism
  • The method of drawing ethical lines
  • Professional codes of ethics
    • Conflicts within the code
    • Difficulties in their interpretation
  • Process improvement from an ethical perspective
  • Restructuring the mission of an organization from an ethical perspective
Deliverables

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will 
  • Be able to articulate classical principles of ethics 
  • Understand the relationship between classical principles and professional codes of ethics
  • Develop an awareness of professional ethics
  • Apply the concepts and techniques developed in the workshop to solve case studies
  • Construct, evaluate or modify the mission of their organization from an ethical perspective
  • Propose an improvement to a given process or method from an ethical perspective
